Raised by a mother with multiple sclerosis and an absent father with substance use disorder, Ty witnessed his father's alcohol abuse and struggled with feelings of resentment towards his mother.  He experienced poverty, rough neighborhoods, and early exposure to substance abuse.

Escalation into Addiction

Ty started using substances like marijuana and alcohol in his early teens then progressed to opioids and pain pills, leading to a cycle of dependency. He found himself in a dark place, using meth and heroin, feeling hopeless and paranoid.

Turning Point: Incarceration and Reflection

A turning point for Ty came when he was incarcerated for substance-related offenses. He faced a major crossroads and experienced a moment of clarity in jail after the passing of his grandfather. He came to realize the impact of his actions on his loved ones and the need for change.

Embracing Recovery and Community Support

Upon release, Ty found a supportive community through a 12-step program while engaged in a job as a fencing worker, mentored by a recovery veteran, Brett. He went on to develop a strong support system that helped him navigate challenges and maintain sobriety.

A New Chapter: Love, Healing, and Hope

Ty found love and acceptance in his relationship with a supportive partner. He also engages in peer support work, helping others on their journey to recovery by encouraging those struggling with addiction to seek help and embrace the possibility of change.
